The discipline

Civil engineering deals with the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. The field covers structures, materials, geotechnics, water resources, transport and construction management.

Study and practice

Study in this discipline develops the ability to analyse structural and environmental systems, work with construction materials and plan infrastructure. Practitioners work in construction, structural design, water and transport planning, surveying and project management.
